Google, which is already in a quasi-systematic in the rankings of companies in which to work, is about to further improve the lives of its employees by increasing wages by 10%, reports the Wall Street Journal. The increase will cover all 23,000 employees of the Internet giant in January 2011.

Purpose of the operation: to avoid brain drain to the rival Facebook, which about 10% of employees are former Google and other companies in Silicon Valley. Google boss Eric Schmidt said in an email sent to employees:

“We want to make you feel rewarded for your hard work. We want to continue to attract the best people at Google. ”

The company has even developed an algorithm to predict which employees are most likely to desert Google from the annual evaluations of employees in order to prevent wear. Financial analysts estimate that the transfer of wealth to workers could be offset by lower margins, reflecting the importance of being able to keep the most talented people in business in competition on the Internet. A Google spokesman confirmed to AFP: “We believe that competitive compensation plans are important for the future of the company.”

“Google clearly does not have the same opportunities in terms of participation as Facebook, said an analyst at BGC Partners in the columns of The Wall Street Journal. In recent years, several Google engineers who worked on Chrome and Android are spent at Facebook. ”

Lars Rasmussen, co-founder of Google Maps, explained on November 1 in the Sydney Morning Herald why he resigned after six years at Google to join Facebook, convinced by Mark Zuckerberg in person:

“I feel that Facebook is one of those companies that only happens once a decade. Obviously, they have already changed the world, but it seems that there is still so much to do at home. [...] This can be really difficult to work in a company the size of Google. ”

The Australian newspaper said that Facebook does not count “only” 2,000 employees, against 25,000 in Google.

Working in a magazine jobs has proven to be something very favored among the range of women preoccupied in shaping a career, and as such many of them prefer working in editing, or photography or writer staff. This option is moreover favored since lately the online publications offer possibilities for women to work flexible hours allowing them to allocate more time to their children.

Many magazines have plenty of departments offering a variety of jobs where different skills are required, such as editing, graphic design, newsletter layout, photograph, writing, advertising, management, computer skills. Therefore women can opt for the sector they are qualified for and in this way being given the chance to build their career.

Some of the magazine jobs, such as editing or writing can require a college education. Along with these opportunities here is another one – sifting through jobs choosing magazines that have subjects that are of their interest (themes like these are covered almost in every magazine: home decor, finance, business, travel, fashion, parenting, gardening, fashion or any other topic of interest).

1. To apply for a magazine job you should build a detailed (to include all the education status) and very professional resume. In this respect you should have two formats – one to be used as online application and the other one to have it print for applying on person or by mail.

Any skills that prove having office work experience is important to be displayed although it didn’t have anything to do with the magazine work. Some legwork should be done as well to find out what are the things comprised in the job and if there is the opportunity to climb he career ladder in the future.

2. The next thing is to know how to keep the job once the career is secured. With hard work and meeting the deadlines can lead to success. The editors, designers, writers all have to achieve the required tasks on time for the final format of the magazine not to wait any longer.

Being a new comer in the team and to be sure that your position can be secured you need to show diligence with the smallest of the tasks and being willing to work extra hours as well.

3. Be willing to begin at the bottom in case you want to consolidate a long term magazine job. Even if you start as an editor’s assistance, for instance, you can never know how soon the opportunity can show for you to become a full editor. Another tip would be to start as a freelancer in writing or photographing before even getting hired as one of the employees position.

Changing the job is the conclusion that you reach out of several reasons but what is the most important is to truly determine if this move is the right one for you to do. You have to be very clear, as the future employer would be very eager to find out the reasons you have left the job for. Thus the impression that you create can depend a lot on your answers and your attitude towards being asked this questions.

The reasons you might have can be various, but it is possible that some of the following aspects to be included in your decision, therefore it is very important to ponder around them before you begin your new job search.

What do you think of your salary? Do you feel that you are not paid enough for the responsibilities you have or for the personal contribution you bring to the business? Or do you know about the existence of other companies that pay better in the same field you are working?

Anyway, the salary you get for your work has to be the most important thing to take into account. The fact that your company is small can not provide you the opportunity to climb the career ladder or maybe you are not offered the opportunities that you feel like deserving.

These opportunities are in fact the fuel that keeps the engine of motivation running they giving you the reason to reach for professional and personal improvement. This fact is important for your own satisfaction and well being when at work or another social environments.

If the challenge doesn’t exist any more and you already sense that there isn’t any more room for such opportunities to appear, then pretty soon the boredom will install and you will want to leave the job as soon as another option comes into view.

Considering that you spend a lot of time at work it is very important for you to enjoy the work environment and for some people this aspect cunts even more than the salary they receive. A company seen from inside is hard to reach at until you actually are an active daily part, and in this respect it would be a great idea to find out what this is like with the new job you apply for.

Other aspects can be as well the too long time that it takes for you to reach to work, stressful hours that add up to the time that you do not spend with your family or the beloved one.

When asked by the potential employer why you apply for the job you should be very clear about this aspect long before you reach for the interview. The success of the job application may depend a lot on the answer you come up with.
